Little Referee

When Cael was born, a woman who works at the AIA sent Cael an AIA whistle and a form to sign up for officiating. I gave him the whistle for the first time this morning to keep him occupied while I got him dressed. He is having a ball with it now, and I have a headache.

Mmmm...Oreos

Enjoying Nature

Saturday we went on our annual drive over the mountain to gaze at the golden colors of the fall leaves. It was beautiful, as always.

This is what we saw...

This is what Cael saw...

Future Writer?

Cael with his ook and his en.
Recently, Cael started pointing to his hand and saying, "Ook." He also would say, "Share," while pointing to his cheek (which should really be his temple). It took me a few days to realize he was speaking Blue's Clues. Although he hasn't watched it a lot, he has picked up these two signs from the show. (For those who aren't subjected to watching endless children's shows and getting songs stuck on continuous play in their heads, on Blue's Clues, the main character writes down clues in a notebook and sits in a chair to think, think, think.)

On Sunday in church, I gave him a little notebook I had in my bag and a pen with which to write. Yesterday, he asked for the book while signing by pointing to his hand. I gave him the notebook from my church bag, with a pencil this time (sometimes I get smarter). He hasn't let go of the "ook" since. He even slept with it last night and is taking his nap with it now.

I am just hoping he will be a writer someday. Funny boy.

Just Like Dad

Cael's favorite place to be is in the Jeet with Da-ee. He sits in the passenger seat and rides along in pure heaven. They go for a ride at least twice a week to get dinks at the station. Now, Cael opens the door and climbs in himself to drive the Jeep as it sits stationary in our backyard. "Vroom vroom," he says as he turns the steering wheel. Recently, a man driving by asked if Paul would sell the Jeep. Paul told him he wasn't wanting to sell it now, and he later told me it depended on the price. I told him no way; it is priceless to Cael and to their father-son time together.
If Cael grows up wanting to fill his dad's shoes, I'm all for it.
