June 7, 2014: Wizard of Oz Museum, Wamego, Kansas

"If I only had a heart..."
After reading The Wizard of Oz together, Cael and I were both THRILLED to be able to go to this museum on our way through Kansas. I grew up watching the movie yearly, if not more, and I've always loved the story. Reading the original version with Cael was a treat, as I got to know the characters and events all over again. The museum was small, but it was full of memorabilia and plenty of photo opportunities.
Notice the huge smiles on our faces.
"If I only had a brain..."
"Somewhere over the rainbow..."
"Courage!"
"I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!"
"Click your heels together three times and say,
'There's no place like home.'"
The poppies put Cael to sleep. Zzz...
Time to head back home.
Farewell, Oz.
"Follow the Yellow Brick Road..."

Cael pretending to sleep.

State #45 for Mom! Woohoo!

It was raining a little when we arrived in Kansas.

June 7, 2014: Strawberry Festival

Mom read about a strawberry festival that just happened to be taking place while we were in Independence, Missouri. It took place at this old mansion. They had strawberry treats for sale, as well as antiques and other unique items from vendors.
Mmm... Strawberry Shortcake
We bought this little old ladder to put in our home.

June 6, 2014: Yankees vs. Royals!

The whole reason for our trip to Missouri was to see Derek Jeter play in his farewell season. We got tickets for the first game of this series in Kansas City, and we found out that day that he wouldn't even be playing that night. Can you believe it?! Well, we still had a great time at our first visit to the K (the fans call it that, short for Kaufmann), and the Yankees won! The KC fans were great; one man gave you a baseball he had caught the previous night, and another man gave you some of his funnel cake. Dad and I were very impressed with their kindness.
You started off a Yankees' fan,
but you left a Royals' fan.
They even had fireworks after the game.
The Yankees, sans Jeter, take the field.

June 6, 2014: Liberty Jail Tour

What a testimony-builder this was!
We learned of the time Joseph Smith was imprisoned here and of the revelations he received from the Lord at this time.

June 5, 2014: Traveling Across Missouri

We departed from St. Louis and headed to our next stop, Kansas City.
We stopped to see Dad's old college
stomping grounds.
While playing basketball here,
he was MVP. Great job, Dad!
On The Road Again:
Dad and Mom are happy;
Cael not so much.
We were excited to have our
first night of Kansas City BBQ!
Mom's humidity hair:
It looked like this most of the trip.

Six Flags: Flying a Plane and Scooby Dooby Doo!

Six Flags: Hugging and Dancing with Looney Toons Characters

Daffy took your hat!
You gave Sylvester a big hug.
Another hug for Elmer Fudd.
We had fun dancing with Taz..
...and Foghorn Leghorn...
...and Tweety.
Shake your groove thing, Mom!

Six Flags: Cael's 1st Roller Coaster

Cael DID NOT like this ride!

June 4, 2014: Six Flags: Superhero (and Villain!) Heaven
